A formally trained artist who holds degrees in architecture, painting and education, Diane Dorsey discovered her true passion for jewelry design after relocating from Ohio to Santa Fe, where she trained with master silversmiths and goldsmiths. Today, she lives with her jazz musician husband, in Los Olivos, California, where she hand-carves each of her nature-inspired designs.
IN HER WORDS
“My place in the art world is jewelry. All this life experience—the making of sculpture, the study of architecture, and the study of painting—all of this is coming back and feeding what I’m doing today. I call my jewelry ‘sculpted adornment’. How can I take this piece of metal and make it inspire you? How to express an idea of light or a rose or a clover? What does that mean for me?”
Artful, bohemian and nature-inspired are words that come to mind when describing Diane Dorsey’s jewelry. As a former arts educator, Diane’s wide-ranging knowledge of the arts informs her cerebral designs. We love that the iconic female artist Agnes Martin directly inspired her Light collection. Every piece in Diane’s oeuvre is handmade by the artist, which lends her jewelry an intensely personal quality.
