After studying cartography and geomatics and working in fields like architecture and engineering, San Francisco-based designer Sharona Wolff came to jewelry design and making later in life and studied under a Florentine master goldsmith. An unplanned, cross-continental move prompted her to embrace her new vocation as a jeweler and launch her brand Atelier Wolff. Her creations are heavily influenced by the metals and gems from Sharona's childhood, the symbols and techniques of ancient cultures, and the countries where she has lived and worked. Design and color are the driving forces behind the 22K gold pieces, and Sharona prefers the soft luster of cabochons to the conventional sparkle of faceted gemstones. Fusing many layers of symbolism, myths, legends, and techniques, she crafts a rich story that translates emotion and stimulates connection for all who wear the pieces.
IN HER WORDS
"Jewelry is about emotions, the desire for beauty and the telling of a story. We see something intensely personal about ourselves reflected back in it, rather like a portrait. I take the legends, myths, symbols and artistry of the ancient world and using the same techniques as the ancient goldsmiths, bring to life designs based in today’s perspective that translate emotion and tell a story that people can connect with." - Sharona Wolff
WHAT WE LOVE
Atelier Wolff's handcrafted pieces astound us with their exquisite detail in rich 22K gold and lush cabochon gemstones. We love how the collection looks like it could be featured in a museum of ancient objects but handcrafted for enduring style. We're also impressed by the designer's commitment to her distinct aesthetic, influenced by her training with a master Florentine goldsmith, her time spent living in countries all over the world, the legends and lore of ancient civilizations, and more. The pieces are future heirlooms to be treasured today and for many generations to come.
